Mice in groups 2 and 4 were consuming nicotine in the drinking water from day 1 to the day of blood collection, animals in group 6 began consuming nicotine on day 14. Twenty mice in each group were euthanized on day 18 and the remaining mice (18–20) were euthanized at 46 weeks, the termination of the tumorigenesis protocol. Blood was collected immediately postmortem by cardiac venipuncture. Plasma was isolated and analyzed by LC/MS-MS for nicotine and its metabolites.
